Spark Show At Dusk

Spark Show At Dusk with Photos by Kent Staubus

It’s been a busy day but the festivities are still going on! At dusk the crowd gathers near Steamer Hill awaiting the spectacular Spark Show. One of the huge steam engines is being stoked to send smoke and sparks into the night sky, and all that will be visible are fiery sparks flying high, creating a spectacle that is unique to Threshing shows. It is a re-enactment of the home grown and home made night-time entertainment midwestern folks created back in the days when 4th of July fireworks weren’t as available as they are today.  Kent Staubus provided the night time photos on this page.

In addition to the Spark show, evening and nighttime activities include moonlight steam rides, steam car rides, some of the food concessions, and just viewing the sights. Kent Staubus took these spectacular photos of the steam engines on Steamer Hill at night. Thank you, Kent, for sharing them with us!

We had Kent’s spectacular photo of the Spark Show printed on black t-shirts and black sweat shirts as a souvenir of the Threshing Show. They are sold in the Souvenir Shop during the show. Some may still be available. Contact Donna Anderson for more information.
